Andre Citroen founded the company he named after him self, “Citroen”, in 1919. The French company became the first mass automaker outdoors of America to have any mass market success, with simple designs which served the growing auto market well. Also awarded with the production of the worlds ever first front wheel drive car, the Citroen Traction Devant in 1934, Citroen is a huge front leader in ground breaking and uncommon designs, although remaining efficient in producing mass market cars which sold well. The French based company, ground breaking in itself to be the first European mass market car manufacture, was later created into the PSA Peugeot Citroen group, which includes the headquarters in Paris. astoriarr
That was common for vehicle manufactures to switch creation from cars to armed forces hardware for the advertising campaign on planet War 1, often switching back to automobile production following the world war had ceased. Andre Citroens story is somewhat different, however; with the Frenchmen deciding to build cars post World Battle One, after he experienced no use for his factory following the war. Citroen, the man not the company, at first built armed forces wear for France through the World War, but found himself with no business following the war had completed. Having a factory in his possession, Citroen commenced to produce cars, with the newly designed (by Notre Zebre) type A. The sort A was the first production car by Citroen, and within its two year production life got outputted over twenty four thousand units. Originally advertising for near eight thousands of francs, the cost was lifted to twelve. 5 thousand droits just one year later. With the number of units being produced, around 100 per day, Citroen had established itself as the first European mass market car manufacture.
In later years of the 19 twenties, Citroen teamed up with the leading, Budd, a north american engineer, who worked on stainless bodies for train cars originally, but then contracted to automakers to do the same. A large number of car manufactures of times, including Citroen, received steel physiques which were made by Edward Budd, with the Citroen steel bodied automobiles believed to be the first outside America.
Citroen believed heavily after the promotion of the hallmark, with the iconic and large Eiffel Tower in Paris lit up with the word “CITROEN” between 1925 and 1934, an advertising method to legendary promotions in the day. Citroen cars continued to sell well, although many other car producers started out to change and update their body designs after switching from wood to steel, leaving Citroen was very basic and a bit dated designs. The reduced price of the cars guaranteed mass units were still sold, although the company commenced to experience deficits. The development of the progressive Traction Avant, the first front wheel drive car, spurred the company onwards, with the sequence of new models.
